Our cycling and walking routes

Some suggestions

In Kessel and the surrounding area there are numerous beautiful cycling and walking routes. But also far beyond. Cycling to the German Brüggen for example is certainly worth it or walking through the beautiful National Park De Meinweg near Roermond.

The junction routes show the way automatically. Cycling and walking maps of the region are available at the VVVs in Kessel en Panningen or order them online.

Below we mention a few examples from the vicinity of Kessel:

Cycling along the Maas to Venlo

On the way there you cycle between Kessel and Baarlo past meadows with horses and fields with various crops, which then make way for leafy lanes and roads through Hout-Blerick. You always have a view of the course of the river. You cross the Maas via the bicycle path of the railway bridge and you can enjoy a snack and drink on the Maasboulevard.
On the way back you cycle over the dike on the right bank of the Maas to the village of Steyl. Past the monasteries you turn right to the ferry. From there you return via Baarlo to Kessel.

Cross the Maas via foot/bicycle ferry in Neer

From Kessel you cycle or walk south via a beautiful route to the Mussenberg. From here you have a beautiful elevated view over the Maas. Continue your way along the river to the foot/bicycle ferry in Neer. On the other side you cycle through the floodplains and via a beautiful rural route you arrive at the ferry in Beesel. The ferry takes you back to the centre of Kessel.

Beautiful walk Leudal

This walk is definitely not to be missed. Park at the Bezoekerscentrum Leudal on the Roggelseweg 58 in Haelen. At the pumping station, a footpath winds along the winding Leubeek. See the work of beavers or view the place where kingfishers breed in the walls of the banks in the spring. It is a beautiful path because there is a lot of difference in height, which provides beautiful views. Visit the 18th century watermill, the Leumolen, also called the Ursulamolen. Follow the stream for a while and walk back to the Visitor Center via the other bank at your leisure, where there is also plenty to do or enjoy a cup of coffee on the terrace.
